When Sen. John McCain delivered the keynote address at the National Federation of Independent Business 2008 National Small Business Summit last month, he did much more than speak to several hundred interested small business owners. He pushed the concerns of a significant voting bloc to the forefront of the presidential campaigns. In fact, both Sens. McCain and Barack Obama have spent much time specifically addressing the No. 1 issue among small businesses — healthcare. And it’s about time.

Recognizing that healthcare costs have become unmanageable for many entrepreneurs, Sen. McCain said, if elected, his administration would introduce healthcare reform that would provide hardworking Americans more options and expand portability of coverage.

Sen. Obama, who was invited to speak at the Summit but did not attend, responded to Sen. McCain’s remarks by reiterating that small businesses need more options to access quality, affordable healthcare coverage. We also know both candidates recognize that implementing health information technology and addressing an inequitable tax structure should play a part in any comprehensive reform package.

Over the past few weeks, it’s been encouraging to see the candidates discuss the issues facing the small business, especially the rising cost of healthcare. But they — and all of our country’s leaders — must realize that entrepreneurs deserve more than just discussions. Because the truth is, these job creators, those on the front lines of the healthcare crisis, are the voters who will be electing the next president, and they are demanding the next administration and Congress implement real change that makes healthcare more affordable for working Americans.

According to a recent NFIB survey, 81 percent of small business owners and 52 percent of employees do not feel the presidential candidates are adequately addressing issues that are important to them, specifically healthcare. In fact, nearly three-quarters of those polled say fixing healthcare should be a top priority for the next president, and nearly 80 percent agree that “it is important to me to vote for a presidential candidate whose healthcare plan makes sense for small business.”

A similar survey showed that the small business community comprised 43 percent of U.S. registered voters and nearly 32 percent of the electorate on Super Tuesday. These numbers prove that small business is a powerful, motivated group in a position to demand substantial solutions to the healthcare crisis from their candidates.

Both candidates are focused on reforming our ailing healthcare system and have begun to recognize that small business must be considered in any proposed legislation. The National Small Business Summit may have ended, but small business’ commitment to achieving quality, affordable healthcare has not.

We’re at the beginning of long and productive discussions with both candidates to ensure the needs of small businesses remain at the forefront of the healthcare debate. Because we know that solutions to America’s healthcare crisis must start with small businesses, the backbone of the U.S. economy. When healthcare is fixed for small business, it will be fixed for America.

Why do you want to work from home? I’ve heard people say that the main reason that they want to work at home is because they can work only when they want to work. It’s true that you can set your own work hours when you work at home - but that doesn’t mean that you can get by flying by the seat of your pants!

A ‘hit or miss’ work schedule…or rather, the lack of any work schedule at all, simply will not work. Time is of the Essence! YOUR time!

If you’re not about getting your work done, you’ll either spend too much time working or your business will fail. You’ve got to set up a work schedule for yourself and you’ve got to stick to it. You can choose your own hours…but you can’t skip work and expect your business to grow.

When you work for someone else, you have set working hours. You’re expected to do work during those hours and get done what you need to get done. You can’t leave work in the middle of your time and you definitely can’t have friends and family stopping by to chat.

When you have a work at home job or business you need that same kind of structure. You need to set regular working hours. Working at home gives you the freedom to choose your own hours….but you have to set those hours and work them!

If you start keeping regular hours, your friends and family will have to go through some adjustment. Your mother wouldn’t dream of calling you at your real job and asking you to run some errands. Your best friend wouldn’t come into your workplace and sit down, expecting to chat for two hours.

It’s a strange but true fact that these people who respect your “real” job out of the home can misunderstand your new working at home status. That very same mother and that very same best friend will walk all over your work time at home. Why? Because you’re at home and they think you’re available.

People have a hard time seeing working at home as a “real job.” Your family, friends and spouse will assume that you have all the time in the world now that you’re “not working.”

How can you let them know that this business is a real business? By setting a schedule and sticking to it. Unless you see your work at home job as a REAL job with REAL hours, your time will be eaten away by your friends, your family and even yourself.

Make a schedule for your work and start sticking to it. Let your friends and family know when your hours will be. You don’t need to be rude about it, just to the point. Tell them “I will be working from 9 am to 3 pm Mondays through Fridays. On those days during those hours, I’m not available for errands, personal phone calls or company visiting.”

The most important part is following through. Make sure you stick to your own schedule – you’ll be able to get to your work done and you’ll garner the respect of your friends and family.

In today’s economy, sometimes one job is not enough. Not everyone is involved in a Union with a high-paying career. Lots of families across the United States are struggling to make ends meet. Even with a high-paying job, you still may not be making enough money for all your wants and needs. Furthermore, a lot of people do not have the time or energy to work a second job. Work-at-home jobs are a great solution to this predicament.

Why work at home? Working online is a great way to earn a little extra cash. It’s fast and easy. There is no extensive training or knowledge required for these types of jobs. All you need for these positions is a little computer knowledge and Internet access. It is best to know a little about Microsoft Word as many of these jobs involve writing of some sort. So, if you have the time, dedication, and need to succeed, work at home.

What are the benefits? Work at home jobs are very rewarding. First of all, they save you money on gas. Driving around to one job every day is expensive enough. With a work-at-home job, you never have to leave your house. You can set your own hours. If you are working two jobs or even looking for that second job, it can be very challenging to find time to do everything. With a work-at-home job, there are no shifts and time limitations except for deadlines. If you use your time wisely, all deadlines can easily be met. You can work early in the morning or all through the night; it’s your choice.

Why not a real job? If you are working one job already, it can be very hard for you or you potential employer to find a permanent shift that works for you and the company. In that case, it would also increase your chances of your application being rejected. Employers look for flexibility. Work-at-home jobs are great for time restraints because you will never be asked when you can work by an Internet employer. It does not matter to them when you work as long as you make the deadline. You will save money on gas as well. This is always a good thing. Also, with a work-at-home job, there is no risk of losing your job over an argument with a customer. You will not be working directly with clients in most cases, so you do not have to put on that false smile.

Work-at-home jobs are very beneficial to the second-job seeker. They will prove to be very convenient and easy to work with. Furthermore, you will need only a few very basic qualifications for one of these positions. There are, though, a few disadvantages. One major disadvantage is that you will not make huge profit with one of these jobs. These are good for those that only need a little bit of extra money. If you are searching for a job that will make you rich, this is not the one. Also, sometimes these jobs can be a little overwhelming and frustrating because it appears that you are doing a lot of work with little pay. But, if you are persistent and willing to work diligently, you will make some good money. So, if you are a second-job seeker with a little extra time, work at home.

To make money online many people jump right in before they are properly prepared. You know that to be a rocket scientist, a doctor, a brick layer, a construction worker, an office worker, a teacher there are prerequisites, things you must learn, before you can be successful, you don’t just jump right in unprepared.

The same applies to the online marketing industry, even if there are some who try to make you think that that it is a piece of cake. It is so important to note that when you succeed, it will be such a fresh change from the every day hectic life that accompanies the 9-5 that so many of us have lived for so many years.

Most people will not make a dime online and yet there are others who will make more in one month than most people make in a whole year. Why is that? What comes first? The Chicken or the Egg? Personally I vote for, well never mind, each argument you or I make comes back to the same old conclusion – I have no clue and I don’t think many of us do either. One thing I do know for sure is that to be successful in making money online, you have to be passionate about the niche or product you wish to become involved with.

When you are interested in something, you will take that necessary time to research it properly and learn all you can. It is then that you translate that like (or Passion) into the education, excitement and work that usually accompany Passion. I will have to say that many online entrepreneurs are so good at what they do that they ignore passion because they can sell anything.

But I’m concerned about those of you who are not so knowledgeable at working an online business successfully. Now, I am not trying to suggest that discipline and motivation are the only things necessary to succeed. To be successful, you need a well designed, well functioning website, advertisement and marketing, etc. Those things are often learned from the company you join – but sidestep Passion and you reduce your chances for success dramatically. To maintain an interest in the product you are looking to promote, you must have an initial interest in it, and that means be passionate about it.

Working on the Internet from home is normally not that difficult, but you must be motivated and have the drive to succeed. Internet Search Engines are excellent resources in searching for online opportunities in Internet Marketing and Business! Your research should uncover a company that you like and have confidence in. It should be solid, founded on great principles, and easy to understand with great products and services that are sell-able for which you can have Passion. If you don’t find it move on.

You can find a great opportunity as outlined above. Comments like, well, that one sounds good and the compensation plan is excellent so I guess I’ll start that business – does not sound like a decision based on anything near Passion.

Don’t be fooled by those Internet geniuses (you know, the ones who can sell anything) into thinking that you can be just like them, even if it is possible. It takes time and practice just like anything else. Indeed, it is your personal goal to get to where you also are able to sell almost anything online. The goal is clearly a worthy one. You must remember that there are guidelines that need to be followed to be successful, and having the passion to succeed will help you avoid skipping steps in the process of learning.

Not being Passionate about a company and products and services that has market proof that it will sell is a pitfall you simply must avoid.

Among the resources available online, one particular site stood out and that was Zero Friction Marketing. A clear-cut crash course and excellent opportunity, as well as example of the possibilities when you are looking in the right place. The mentoring and proven tactics are among the best available online today.

They number in the millions and they are incredibly important to families and to our society, yet they are underappreciated, little respected, and even controversial.

Who are they?

They are the stay-at-home moms.

These are women who know in their hearts that staying home to raise their children is the right choice for the whole family. Some do it from the outset of their marriages, while others make the difficult transition from career-driven women to homemakers. Either way, it is a choice that is incredibly rich and rewarding, not to mention challenging.

Now Dr. Laura, building on principles developed during her long career as a licensed marriage and family therapist, provides a wealth of advice and support, as well as compassion and inspiration, to women as they navigate the wonders and struggles of being stay-at-home moms.

Learn how:

to hold your head high and deal with naysayers;

to see the benefits of being home not only for your children but also for your marriage;

to understand the changes you see in yourself;

to realize that the sacrifices you endure now will make for lasting bonds and a stronger family, in addition to a more cohesive community.

In Praise of Stay-at-Home Moms is a special book, a profound and unique understanding of how important it is for mothers to raise their own children.
